Why are so many people completely dismissive of the swine flu?

I understand that it hasn't been very lethal yet, but do people not understand that that the death rate isn't what scares the scientists who are issuing warnings? It is the rate of mutation that has them worried. The first wave of the 1918 flu pandemic wasn't fatal either, but the rapidly mutated strain that followed devastated the world. It is reputable organizations and brilliant scientist who are being cautious, not just the media. Does this laissez-faire attitude worry any one else? Maybe this won't be a deadly strain, but shouldn't we heed warnings and take them seriously?
