How much vigilant training before the dog gets it?

Dunno. My dog is a moron. If you let her off of her leash she just runs into the woods to find some bunnies to chase. I have taken her to the same spot to pee since we got her in the fall. Your dog sounds like he will do just fine.You can probably try it now.
